Michael V. Como MD, FCCP
Michael V. Como MD, FCCP joined Nassau Chest Physicians in 2006. He completed his undergraduate studies at Binghamton University where he received a BS in Biochemistry in 1992. He pursued his medical education at the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center, College of Medicine where he graduated with his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1997. He was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society for his graduating class.
After medical school Dr. Como completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. This three year training program included training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens and the Bronx VA Medical Center. In 2000, he started a Fellowship Training program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine which he successfully completed in 2003. As a fellow he earned a certificate degree in medical ethics at a Joint program with Albert Einstein College of Medicine and NYU.
After completion of his fellowship training he worked in pulmonary and critical care at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC for 3 years and was awarded Attending of the Year in 2004 in the department of medicine for contributions to medical education at Lenox Hill. In 2006 he joined Nassau Chest Physicians. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Como is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Como is on the professional staffs of St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn NY, North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset and Plainview, NY), and St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage NY. He is the Director of Palliative Care at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY. He acts as the Co-Director for the Medical Intensive Care Unit at St. Francis Hospital as well as the Director of Palliative Care. He is also Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Hofstra University Medical School.
