Joan Mogil, R.N., N.P. joined Nassau Chest Physicians, P.C. as the first non-physician practitioner in October of 1997.  She came to the practice after a long career in Pulmonary Nursing.

She graduated from Hunter College – Bellevue School of Nursing and earned a BS  Degree in Nursing.  She completed Graduate Studies at Columbia University and received a Masters Degree in Nursing from SUNY at Stony Brook with licensure and certification in both Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Programs.  She has certification as a Nurse Practitioner from The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Past Clinical experience includes 7 years as Pulmonary Nurse Clinician at Queens Hospital Center and 10 years in the Pulmonary Medicine Department at Long Island Jewish Medical Center involved with patient education, pulmonary rehabilitation support groups, and assistant with bronchoscopy procedures.

During her years at Nassau Chest Physicians, PC she has specialized in asthma, COPD, and coordination of services for other chronic lung disorders.  She has been Study Coordinator for Several Clinical Research Studies and works with a large group of severe asthmatics receiving Xolair therapy. 

 

Jaclyn Thoresz, R.N., A.N.P. joined Nassau Chest Physicians, P.C. in August 2005 as the second non-physician practitioner.

She graduated Cum Laude from Plattsburgh State University of New York in 2000 with a B.S. in nursing. She worked in St. Francis Hospital as a registered nurse on a medical-surgical unit for five years. During that time she earned her MS in the Adult Nurse Practitioner program at Stony Brook State University of New York. She graduated and became certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2005.

Jaclyn became interested in Pulmonary Medicine during her nurse practitioner education when she spent clinical hours with Dr. Jonathan Waxner, and Joan Mogil, R.N., N.P. With her hospital based nursing experience, she was well prepared to begin her role as nurse practitioner in the acute care setting at St. Francis Hospital. Under doctor supervision she admits pulmonary patients to the hospital, performs physical assessments, guides the plan of care, and discharges patients. She teaches patients about their pulmonary diagnoses and medications. She has a vast amount of experience managing patients after lung surgery and open heart surgery.

She is also an adjunct professor in the Adult Nurse Practitioner program at Molloy College since 2006.
