Joan Mogil, R.N., N.P. joined Nassau Chest Physicians, P.C. as the first non-physician practitioner in October, 1997. She came to this practice after a long career in pulmonary nursing.

She graduated from Hunter College-Bellevue School of Nursing and earned the BS degree and RN licensure. She then went on to complete a masters program at Hunter College and received the MS degree. She subsequently completed training in Physical Therapy at Columbia University and is a licensed Physical Therapist. Most recently, she completed her advanced nursing training at State University of New York at Stony Brook, School of Nursing and she is a certified and licensed Nurse Practitioner.

Joan Mogil has a vast amount of clinical experience in the field of Pulmonary Medicine. She served as a Pulmonary Nurse Clinician at Queens Hospital Center, Jamaica, NY for seven years. She then worked at Long Island Jewish Medical Center for twelve years. For the first ten years she was a Pulmonary Nurse Educator, and then was a Pulmonary Nurse Practitioner. During this time she was involved in the performance of bronchoscopic procedures and assisted the physicians performing these procedures.

She is a member of the American Lung Association and the New York State Association for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Association of Nassau-Suffolk.

She specializes in Asthma Education and Self-Management skills for adult and pediatric patients. She is also expert in the area of Pulmonary Rehabilitation Education and runs a support group for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. She also serves as a resource for the education, treatment and coordination of services for patients with other chronic lung disorders including cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, and tuberculosis.
